2005 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
2005 HEALTH CARE EXECUTIVES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’s ANNUAL CONFERENCE was held on Friday, November 4, 2005. The topic was “Rising Healthcare Costs: Who Gets Squeezed by Efforts to Limit Healthcare Expenditures", and the discussion was both provocative and interesting.
The Program included Keynote Speaker Kimberly Belshè, Secretary, California Health and Human Services Agency.
The Health Plan Perspective was provided by Leanne Gassaway, VP Legal Affairs, California Association of Health Plans.
Don Crane, CEO, California Association of Physician Groups, detailed the current challenges experienced by providers through an incisive Medical Group Perspective.
The academic perspective, provided E. Richard Brown, Director, UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, illuminated the current research and policy challenges currently experienced at the state and federal levels.
Moderator James Barber, CEO, Hospital Association of Southern California, asked the panel to summarize the key initiatives to control health care costs in 2006 and beyond.
Special thanks to John Joyce, the annual Conference Chair, who prepared an exceptional conference, and led a thoughtful discussion on National Healthcare Expenditures at the Breakfast Roundtable. The final feature, the Health Care Executives Lifetime Achievement Awards, honored two recipients, Bill Noce, CEO, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and
Sister Marie Madeleine Shonka, President, St. John’s Health Center.
