PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
April 21, 2009
Message from your President
Stanley M. Grube, FACHE
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President for the 2009 year. As you know, as a Member of the College you are a Member of Health Care Executives of Southern California with no additional dues invoiced in the coming year. So, Welcome and I look forward to meeting each one of you at our numerous events throughout the next year.
This is an exciting time in our history and you will see some of the highly beneficial and Value Added Services that are planned and will be available to you as a Member of Health Care Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives. In addition, we are committed to providing the highest standard of services and achieving the highest level of recognition (Award) presented by the College.
I want to advise you of these Services and also the opportunity to Excel. ACHE, through the 2010 Chapter Management and Awards Program, has created Chapter performance indicators and a system to acknowledge these accomplishments. The ACHE goals are included in this message as a review and reminder of our commitment to excellence. Our challenge is to provide high quality services that will enable us to meet or exceed the objectives set by ACHE. At our Charrette, held at the beginning of our 2009 Chapter year, we outlined the plans and goals that would guide our Chapter toward this pinnacle of success.
At the foundation of all that we do is our pledge to provide “Value Added Services” to our current members and to our prospective members. Our Program Councilors must consider how the planned programs meet or exceed the needs and expectations of our Members. Programs that are viewed as having a Value Added benefit will create an excitement and build the momentum needed for success now and in the near term.
Perhaps as important, is effective marketing. Continual follow-up is needed and is being done to ensure our Members are alerted to all of the opportunities, particularly in their respective areas. So, another important part of planning is early notification of all Members and specifically those in the immediate area. Monitoring can and will be done to determine the effectiveness of the overall plan. A cardinal rule of management is applicable here: "You get what you inspect, not what you expect."
The emphasis of the 2010 Chapter Management Awards program is, as the name would imply, on achieving the awards. Awards are significant because they are indicators of success; however, more important is the actual value of chapter membership to all of our affiliates. The following goals also remind us of the need to reach out to all who will benefit from Chapter programs and get them integrally involved!
Let me explain how the System developed by ACHE for determining and presenting the Awards works and is computed. The categories and the formula for computing the metrics are shown below.
- Education & Networking Performance:
This performance measure is a simple calculation of the indexed attendee hours which is the number of programming hours multiplied by the number of attendees for each event divided by total chapter membership at the beginning of the current year. *Chapters must provide at least 7.79 hours of chapter event programming per chapter member.
- Net Membership Growth:
Net membership growth is measured by the percentage difference between the total number of ACHE affiliated chapter members in all membership categories at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year. *Chapters must have a net membership growth of 13 percent.
- Level of Member Satisfaction:
Each chapter must have a top-ranking level of member satisfaction. *Chapters must receive 7.69 or higher on a 10-point scale in chapter member satisfaction.
- Advancement of Eligible Members:(New for 2009)
Advancement of eligible members is measured by the percentage of the eligible pool who advance to Fellow or pass the Board of Governors Exam each year. *Chapters must advance a number greater than or equal to 10.5 percent of the members eligible to advance at the beginning of the year
As you know we are striving for an involved and highly beneficial Chapter that provides Value Added Benefit to all of our Members and that is my commitment to you as a Member of Health Care Executives and the College.
Membership Notification:
Effective January 1, 2008, all ACHE affiliates within the Health Care Executives of Southern California (HCE) assigned geographic territory are automatically members of HCE as a benefit of being an ACHE affiliate. Only ACHE affiliates are to hold membership in the chapter.
